Designed for 4K, 8K, and VR video workflows, the 52TB G-RAID PROJECT 2 2-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array from SanDisk Professional is a high performance, 2-bay enterprise-class storage system. Equipped with an overall capacity of 52TB that is made of up 2 x 26TB 7200 rpm Ultrastar Enterprise-class hard drives, the G-RAID PROJECT 2 delivers read speeds of up to 520 MB/s and write speeds of up to 510 MB/s. Using a hardware controller, it comes preconfigured as RAID 0, which stripes the drives together for faster performance. If you don't need RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD are also supported. In terms of connectivity, this array is equipped with two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports, one of which is used for host connectivity, while the other remains available for daisy-chaining up to five additional devices. Also available is a PRO-BLADE SSD Mag slot, allowing users to work with content from a PRO-BLADE SSD Mag. The G-RAID PROJECT 2 comes preformatted for macOS 11 or later and iPadOS 14 or later, but may be used with Windows 10 and 11 via a simple reformat.

NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices run 24/7, making power consumption a steady, though low, cost. The real ongoing expense is replacing hard drives as they fail or filling empty bays to expand storage.
Common Failure Modes
Hard drive failure is the most common issue, which is why NAS uses RAID redundancy to prevent data loss. Fan failures and power brick deaths are the primary hardware issues for the enclosure itself.
Buy based on the software ecosystem (e.g., Synology DSM) and the number of drive bays you need for redundancy and future expansion. CPU power matters greatly if you plan to run media servers like Plex.
The NAS enclosure itself can last a decade. However, the hard drives inside are consumable and typically need replacing every few years depending on workload.
